Jorina Elbers is a neurologist with clinical expertise in treating chronic stress and trauma. She completed her medical training in neurology with specialization in pediatric neurology at the University of Toronto, Canada. Following this, she worked as an assistant professor at Stanford where she studied the symptoms of nervous system dysregulation and its association with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). After leaving Stanford, she became the director of the Trauma Recovery Project at the HeartMath Institute and created their trauma-sensitive training for health professionals. She speaks nationally and internationally about nervous system dysregulation and the medical symptoms of trauma. She currently runs a holistic integrative neurology practice in Santa Cruz, California.
As a holistic integrative neurologist, Dr. Elbers blends conventional neurology with brain-body therapies aimed at addressing the root cause of symptoms, and helping patients access their innate capacity for healing. Her clinical expertise is on the assessment and treatment of adults and children with chronic pain, unexplained neurological symptoms, and chronic illness. She works with the nervous system using a combination of Brainspotting, HeartMath, and heart rate variability biofeedback to regulate and rewire maladaptive neural patterns that often underlie or contribute to physical and mental health issues.
She has completed additional Brainspotting trainings in Bodyspotting and Brainspotting with children and adolescents. She is currently in the process of completing her certification training with Monika Bauman.
